1949年以前澳門教科書的出版概況

Known as the capital of Sino-Western exchanges, Macau is also the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. To succeed in their business, missionaries and travelling merchants from the West were eager to learn the culture of China and lay a solid Chinese language foundation. Therefore, language study became a vital tool for communication. In the wake of the situation, the historical mission of printing textbooks unfolded. This paper collects 132 types of catalogues of Chinese and foreign textbooks published from 1800 to 1949 in Macau, the contents including Chinese language, science, religion, music, history, etc. It is found that textbook publication in Macau exerts a direct influence on the development of China’s publishing industry, setting an important precedent for the publication of Chinese textbooks in modern times. In the light of the features of textbooks published in different times, the paper conducts its analysis from the following three parts: first, an overview of textbook publication in the 19th century; second, an overview of textbook publication over the first two decades of the early 20th century; and third, an overview of publication and distribution of textbooks from the 1920s to 1940s. The characteristics of the whole period are illustrated by multiple publication statistical tables.
