晚清政局下的口岸知識分子──鄭觀應及經元善的關係研究

In the late Qing Dynasty, the port intellectuals were at the forefront of the Chinese and Western exchanges. Owing to commerciality and modernization, they became the enlightened groups leading the modernization of China. They formed a complex and extensive social relation network with each other. Intellectuals who shared relatively consistent views and interests come together to form a community based on their good personal relationship. However, due to a giant swing in social and political circumstances, not all the intellectuals could withstand political pressure and the entanglement of various interests. The relationship between Zheng Guanying and JingYuanshan serves as a typical case in the analysis of the then social, political and business relationship. As members of the middle class, their relationship covers areas of politics, business and education. The evolution and increasingly growing contradictions between them demonstrate the truth and interests involved between port intellectuals in the late Qing Dynasty. By selecting their case for research, the paper further clarifies the process of evolution of their relationship , and thus reflects the helplessness of the historical figures in this period.
