《知新報》的翻譯及其對中國近代化的影響

The Reformer China (Zhi Xin Bao) was an influential newspaper that the reformists established in Macau (l897-1901), which had two thirds of its contents translated from English, Japanese, German and French. However, few researchers paid attention to its translation activities and their impacts. This paper has found that The Reformer China had been initiated with the reformists’ view that translation could be the key to China’s rejuvenation. We also identified the patrons and professionals in the translation activities, and the covered topics such as international current affairs, advanced western science and technology, commerce and the women’s rights movement. We may conclude that The Reformer China, through a translation of western science and culture, had greatly enlightened the Chinese readers with advanced western civilization and therefore, played an important role in the process of modernization in China.
