Urban municipal utility tunnels are significant for the new type of urbanization, comprehensive utilization of underground space, and the safeguard of the safe operation of municipal pipelines. Investment modes, technical codes and standards, and operation and maintenance management are important factors for the healthy and sustainable development of utility tunnels. In recent years, with the large-scale construction and development of utility tunnels in China, remarkable progress has been made in the areas of investment and financing, construction, operations and management. This paper firstly analyzes relevant contents from the above-mentioned and draws valuable lessons from related experience. Further analysis is then made on current problems and suggestions for future development are offered.
