近代澳門災害與災害保護神研究（1840－1949）

The belief in disaster patron saints is an important part of Chinese traditional beliefs in gods. In modern times, the belief in disaster patron saints in Macau is mainly focused on disasters such as wind damage, fire and epidemics. By offering worship and praying for blessings and disasters, a series of rich and varied religious cultural activities are formed. The psychological comfort and cultural function of social cohesion reflects the fact that under the then social and historical conditions, the civil society in Macau had consciously or unconsciously resorted to supernatural religious power to meet their material and spiritual needs while fighting against various natural disasters. The belief in disaster patron saints, which is of great historical significance, has played a certain historical role in modern Macau’s pre-disaster prevention, post-disaster relief, stabilization of social order, reconstruction of economic and cultural frameworks.
