澳門在“一帶一路”建設中的地緣功能：以馬來西亞為例

Southeast Asia (SEA) is Macao’s “old neighbor”, both from the perspective of geographic location and historical and cultural development. To date, Southeast Asian Countries have enjoyed rapid development politically, economically, socially and culturally. These developments are closely related to Macao. In the 1980s and 1990s many expatriates from Southeast Asia moved to Macao and integrated into the Macao society. The commodities from Southeast Asia also directly bear on the life of Macao people. Theoretically the combination of Paul Krugman’s new geo-economics and “Belt and Road Initiative” can well explain the common ties between Southeast Asian countries and Macao and the direction for future cooperation. Malaysia is one of the key countries in constructing “One Belt One Road.” China, the United States, and Japan all seek the partnership with Malaysia. FDI in Malaysia in recent years, particularly the investment in strategic infrastructure projects such as port, power station, railway in the framework of “One Belt One Road” has significantly increased in recent years. This paper attempts to explore the strategic role Macao could play in pushing Malaysia’s participation in “Belt and Road Initiative”, including Macao’s unique locational condition and geopolitical advantage. Doing so could also help Macao realize economic transition toward proper diversification in its economic development thus achieving the win-win outcome for the interest of both Macao and the nation.
