Public toilet services have been in existence in Macao for over a century, similar to the history of public toilets in Hong Kong. They originated from epidemics, developed along with the sericulture industry, and flourished due to the promotion of public policy. However, the different styles of governance left indispensable influences on both cities. The public toilets of Macao followed closer to the general trend of economic laws and basic theory of communication studies, and finally reached the same level as its neighbor of the development of public toilets in Macao from the perspective of public policy, economics and communication studies.
