查甸‧馬地臣行在澳門（1821－1843）

As one of the earliest and important British trade companies in China, Jardine, Matheson & Co. left a large variety of records of its activities in Macau. This article introduces three aspects of such activities which mainly happened before 1843, including the company’s opium trade in Macau before and during the opium war, its taking part in the Sino-British negotiations and the effect, its cultural and social activities in Macau during the residing period. These show the company’s great influence in the history of Sino-British relations that cannot be neglected.
