Conference Theme: Macau as a Hub
The Centre for Macau Studies cordially invites researchers to submit panel proposals and paper abstracts for the 6th Annual Conference of Macau Studies, to be held on 2-4 December 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The coming conference dedicated to advancing research and dialogue on Macau’s unique role in history, culture, society, and global networks. Since its inception, the conference has served as a platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners from diverse disciplines to exchange ideas and foster collaboration. This theme highlights Macau’s historical and contemporary significance as a connector across regions, traditions, and disciplines. Participants will explore Macau’s role as a hub of cultural exchange, economic activity, and knowledge production, while also considering its evolving position in global and regional contexts. It aims to deepen understanding of Macau’s multifaceted identity and to inspire new perspectives on its role in bridging East and West.

Submission Instructions
- Individual papers: Submit abstracts (300–500 words) before 31 May 2026 through our conference webpage: Individual Paper Submission
- Panel proposals: Submit an abstract of the conference theme (max 300 words), along with abstracts of individual panel papers (max 300 words each). Panel should include a minimum of three papers and a maximum of four papers. Please also provide the name of the panel chair and discussant, if any. Panel proposals must be submitted before 31 May 2026 through our conference webpage: Panel Submission
- Submissions must be in English.
- The conference will be held in hybrid mode. Online participation is welcome. Please indicate whether you plan to attend in person or online when submitting your proposal.
Registration Fee (per head)
- €30 / MOP 300 (non-refundable) per paper presenter.
- The fee is non-refundable even if the participant withdraws after registration.
- Accepted authors who fail to pay the registration fee before the deadline will have their names removed from the conference programme.
Travel and Lodging
- Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel, lodging, and related expenses.
