The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies and the Southern News Network (SNN) (24 June) held a ceremony for the signing of a strategic cooperation framework agreement on the establishment of a joint laboratory of economic and social data research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This agreement represents yet another concrete implementation of deep collaboration between Guangdong and Macao guided by the spirit of an earlier government document Outline of the Strategies for the Development of the Greater Bay Area.
Both parties agree that as a new and influential mainstream media organisation in Guangdong province, SNN has obvious resource-wise advantages, while UM is a university with great potential. Both parties have unique positions and roles in promoting the development of the GBA. In order to seize the strategic opportunities in the area and to promote cross-border flow of information resources and regional integration, the two sides decided to jointly establish a joint lab of economic and social data research. In addition to establishing the joint lab, both parties will also, among other things, jointly establish a database on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao cooperation, carry out research projects on related issues, promote public awareness about the GBA, and establish an internship base for journalism education.
