The “Symposium on Historical and Local Chronicles Research & Cultural-Tourism Integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” was co-hosted by CMS, Hong Kong Publishing Federation, Sino United Publishing, Local Chronicles Compilation Committee Office of Shenzhen Municipality, Hong Kong Chronicles Institute, and Shenzhen Publishing Group, and was held in Shenzhen from November 29 to 30. The event aimed to promote research exchange on historical and local chronicles among the “9+2” cities of the Greater Bay Area and explore new models for integrating cultural resources with the tourism industry.
The event featured multiple thematic forums and a special book exhibition, bringing gathering researchers of local chronicles, cultural promoters, and stakeholders in the cultural-tourism industry from the Greater Bay Area and beyond to engage in in-depth discussions on “Historical and Local Chronicles Research & Cultural Tourism Integration.”
Agnes Lam Iok Fong, Director of CMS and Chief Editor of Macao Gazetteer , attended the symposium with members of the compilation team and delivered a keynote speech titled “Gazetteers as Foundation, Routes as Bridges.” The speech introduced the compilation process and content of Macao Gazetteer , explored the transformation pathway of local gazetteers resources into cultural tourism products, and presents practical designs of using Macao’s local gazetteers to promote cultural tourism and local education. Lam emphasized that local gazetteers serve as a foundational knowledge source, offering the most reliable content for cultural tourism and local education. Cultural routes designed based on these records can act as practical carriers, transforming static documents into dynamic experiences that connect the past with the present and integrate learning with travel.
The thematic book exhibition held concurrently showcased 186 types of historical and local chronicles from the Greater Bay Area. CMS also displayed publications such as Macao Gazetteer: Book of Geography , Journal of Macao Studies , and Review of Culture to facilitate the public understanding of the research achievements on Macao’s history and culture.
